Collection: Harvesting Memories in Blue and Beyond

The focus of this solo exhibit at the Huntington Arts Council centered on Harvesting Memories in Blue, a public sculpture on long-term display in a North Fork farm field. The work honors the farmers of the North Fork (and elsewhere), celebrating their enduring spirit, work ethic, and contribution to humanity. But the exhibit goes beyond Harvesting Memories in Blue, showcasing more of Davis’ recent work and pulling back the curtain on her artistic process.

In nearly all of the work presented, Davis collaborated with a large community of people who helped realize and shape the artwork. She dedicates this exhibit to them.

Others have been inspired by her work and used it in their own art (creating what she has come to only half-jokingly call “remixes”). This remix community is not made up exclusively of people who identify themselves as artists. Perhaps it is the location by itself in the farm field, away from a gallery or other “holy temple” of art, that has made the piece feel approachable by all. Whatever the reason, Davis finds it especially gratifying when the remixers are not folks who normally engage with art. It could be a drone hobbyist photographing the sculpture from thousands of feet in the air, or a Harley rider photographing his prized bike in front of the sphere…she welcomes all to engage with the sculpture as they see fit (though she adds, “please don’t climb on the art!”).
